For more than 10 years Eazy has created his unique batik textiles. He consistently creates new patterns, combines different colours and designs new models for shirts, dresses, table cloths and bags. True to tradition these textiles are sewed by local tailors. These products, however, are of a modern and trendy design. Eazy Mjema is really an all-rounder. He buys the cotton fabrics he needs for his batik work in Dar es Salaam and he always sees that he acquires local products as imported fabrics especially from China are not suitable for his work. He exclusively uses best quality genuine cotton canvas. He only uses very special vivid, bright colours and environment-friendly chemicals. Drawing his patterns with wax on canvas is obviously the most creative part of the process. For this he uses hot wax which is applied to the fabrics by a sponge or brush. Then the dying process follows, manually of course. After drying in the sun, they are painted again and a second or even third colour is added. After rinsing in hot water to remove the wax the textiles are ironed and finally ready for sale or tailoring. The results of this complex and laborious work are beautiful textiles with colours that tell of the rich tropical flora and fauna or just reflect with their abstract patterns the inner world of the artist. Eazy’sEmil (Eazy) Mjema ist ein Batiker, der in Dar-es-Salaam, Tansania beheimatet ist. Er gestaltet in traditioneller Handarbeit wunderschöne afrikanische Stoffe. Hierfür benutzt er unterschiedliche Methoden, wie z.B. das Bemalen der Baumwollstoffe mit Wachs und anschließender Färbung (zwei-oder dreifach Färbung) oder das klassische Tie and Dye, das er auch mit Wachsmalerei kombiniert. Seine einmaligen Muster und sein kreativer Umgang mit den Stofffarben machen seine Batikstoffe zu einzigartigen afrikanischen Produkten, die in der Mannigfaltigkeit der Farb- und Musterkombinationen ihresgleichen suchen. Eazy arbeitet mit einem Schneider zusammen, der aus seinen Batikstoffen Kleider, Hemden und Taschen anfertigt. Bekannt ist der Künstler auch für seine schönen Tischdecken, für die er spezifische Muster entwickelt hat.
